Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano at Playhouse
Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano are as good as it gets in Electronic Dance Music and there is no denying it. From their long, grooving build-ups to genius vocal loops, Sunnery and Ryan provide the music world with songs and performances that have an innate ability to tap into a person’s instinctual need for dance. As best friends this duo hailing from Amsterdam posses a unique performance quality that takes an entire audience by storm in a split-second, and last Friday night at Playhouse Hollywood was no different. With their unmatched talent and incredible sounds, Sunnery and Ryan put together a night which was, in a word, perfect.
First to the decks was Los Angeles resident S.Co, who continues to open for the biggest acts and play the best nightclubs in Hollywood. Opening for DJ’s like Sunnery and Ryan can prove a daunting task, as the two will play just about every genre of electronic music, but S.Co had a flawless set playing everything from minimal to tech-house. While also celebrating his birthday, S.Co had the capacity crowd inside the Playhouse dancing early and often, setting the stage perfectly for Sunnery and Ryan as he passed the baton with Michel Woods’ Last Day On Earth around 12:15 am.
Opening with the mix of their own track Tribeca with Adele’sRolling in the Deep vocals, Sunnery and Ryan started with their specialty: great rhythm and top-notch vocals. Time after time, this duo continues to impress with innovative mash-ups and song combinations. In our interview with the duo last month, they explained the most important characteristic of a successful DJ is to create your own sound – and no one does it better than these two. Perfection comes natural to Sunnery and Ryan as they effortlessly transition through an array of EDM songs like Funkagenda’s Astana mashed with Avicii’sLevels vocals and the Arty (Rock-N-Rolla remix) of Ferry Corsten’s Punk.By playing those three songs within the first ten minutes of the set, the fuse for the Playhouse was lit early paving the way for what was the best party atmosphere I have ever been a part of. From the blasts of CO2 gas during Walking Alone to the champagne showers and throwing of dollar bills, the Playhouse was rocking for the four hours Sunnery and Ryan played. The highlight of the night was undoubtedly when the pair dropped their newest release Lethal Industry. This remake of Tiesto’s classic is house-music gold, and combined with the acapella of Kristine W’s Feel What You Want is, simply put, life changing. Partiers filled the dance floor and go-go dancers lined the bar tops as the entire club thrived off the energy of this song; marking one of the many memorable moments that made Friday night the perfecgt pre New Year’s Eve experience in downtown Hollywood.
