The beloved American indie rock band The National have released their new album titled Trouble Will Find Me – which made its debut last month to much critical acclaim.

The record weaves its way through acoustic and heartfelt tracks depicting mental struggles, love lost and found, feelings of both adoring and missing someone intensely, along with many other themes that are so relatable to the young adult.

The album was recorded first in a converted barn in New York – where a tornado came through and left the town with a power outage. The band members, consisting of lead singer Matt Berniger and two sets of brothers – Aaron and Bryce Dessner, and Scott and Bryan Devendorf – found themselves huddled around a candle playing the songs together acoustically for the first time since the band’s conception. The rest of the album was recorded in a traditional studio, yet The National were still able to maintain the dark and campy feel of its beginnings.

My favorite tracks on the record are “I Should Live in Salt”, “This is the Last Time”, and “Hard to Find”. The album as a whole carries on a melancholic and contemplative theme which fans have come to know and love about The National’s music. If you are in search of some new tunes to spark your thoughts, The National’s “Trouble Will Find Me” will not disappoint.

The band will be on tour from now until the end of November – featuring shows across the country in August all through September. You can catch them in LA at the Greek Theater on August 10th playing alongside Daughters.

Thomas Gold is as good as it gets in today’s electronic music. From his long, grooving build-ups to genius use of vocals and bootlegs, Gold provides the music world with songs and performances that have an innate ability to tap into a person’s instinctual need for dance. As a veteran to the electronic scene, Gold possesses a unique performance quality that takes an entire nightclub by storm in a split second – evident in Friday’s opening edit of Marsch Marsch with Here We Go. In a single moment, Gold grabbed hold of the young Hollywood crowd in CREATE Nightclub and didn’t let go until well after 2:00am, crafting a night that was, in a word, iconic.

SUB.Culture

Each week, THUMP explores the warehouses, lofts, and DIY underground scenes, beginning with a four-part look into Brooklyn’s thriving underground.

WHAT IS ______ ANYWAY?

Each week our host loiters outside different nightclubs, underground parties, and music festivals, asking club-goers to describe what they just heard. THUMP deconstructs everything from genres like house, techno, and trap, to the more obscure witch house.

OTHERWORLD

Partying out of bounds, THUMP takes viewers on an immersive experience through far flung locations pushing the boundaries of the live event experience. Otherworld’s first episode, The Apocalypse, brings us to Playa Del Carmen for the Day Zero, celebrating the prophesied Mayan end of days.

THE TEASE

Emancipator (pseudonym for producer Douglas Appling) has been on my radar since I discovered his first self-released album titled “Soon It Will Be Cold Enough”. That was six years ago, and Emancipator has finally released another album titled “Safe in the Steep Cliffs”.

His musical style is difficult to describe, as it fuses together American folk instruments, electronic sounds, and pristine voices of beautiful singers to create the melodic and wonderful tracks that fill his album playlists.

Take a listen and if you dig it, find him performing this Saturday 3/16 at the El Rey theater in Los Angeles. Tickets can be purchased for ~$26 by clicking here.
