Alex Clare – Hold Yuh (Acoustic Cover of Gyptian)

| June 18, 2012 | 1 Comment

Here is a live performance by Alex Clare that is guaranteed to warm your soul on this Monday night.

Clare entered the US mainstream scene this year with his radio hit “Too Close”, which was also featured in a recent Microsoft commercial. Clare, however, is not new to the realm of music. He grew up in the UK with a musical background and has long been a singer-songwriter who’s simple guitar tunes perfectly complement and highlight his beautifully melodic voice. Clare started off playing his tunes at open mike shows before landing a record deal with Island UK 2011.

That same year, his debut album titled The Lateness of the Hour was released to a well receiving fan and critic base. Some of his most captivating songs from that album include “Relax My Beloved”, “Too Close”, and “Up All Night” which all use a mixture of drums, guitar, and electronica to exemplify Clare’s innovatively musical style.

However, it is his live acoustic performances that Clare posted on YouTube that has converted me into an instant fan – including this amazingly soulful cover of “Hold Yuh” by Jamaican singer Gyptian. His acoustic cover of “Damn Your Eyes” by Etta James is also equally as harrowing. Check it out for yourself and enjoy!
